You can have your residence declaration translated easily online at Ecrivus International by a sworn translatorand receive a legally valid translation with a stamp, signature and statement from the translator, suitable for use with foreign authorities. Prices start from €59.

What is a certificate of residence?

A residence declaration is a statement from the Dutch Tax Administration confirming that you are a resident of the Netherlands and are liable here for income tax or corporation tax. You request the residence declaration from the Tax Administration. Foreign authorities often ask for this document to prevent double taxation or to support a refund of foreign withholding tax. For use abroad, a translation is usually needed and sometimes also a legalisation.

Why a sworn translation?

A sworn translation is produced by a translator registered in the Dutch Register of Sworn Interpreters and Translators (Rbtv). The translator provides the translation with a stamp, signature and statement that makes the translation legally valid. Foreign authorities and tax administrations generally accept only a sworn translation of your residence declarationin such cases. An ordinary translation does not have this status.

How it works at Ecrivus

Frequently asked questions about translating a certificate of residence

What does a certificate of residence mean?

A residence declaration is an official document confirming that you or your company is a tax resident of the Netherlands for a particular tax year. The statement is issued by the Dutch Tax Administration.

How do I obtain a certificate of residence?

You request the residence declaration from the Dutch Tax Administration. If you are registered in the Personal Records Database (BRP), the application goes through the Tax Administration that issues the statement. We translate the statement as soon as you have received it.

Why do I need a certificate of residence?

In many cases a residence declaration is needed to help prevent double taxation, apply a reduced withholding tax rate or support a refund of foreign tax. For use abroad, a sworn translation is required.

Can I have my certificate of residence translated into English?

Yes. You can have your residence declaration translated under oath into English, and into hundreds of other language combinations. You select the language you need at the top of this page.

Do I also need an apostille besides the translation?

It depends on the country where you use the residence declaration afterwards. An apostille is issued by the court under the Apostille Convention (the Hague Convention of 1961). On request, we can have your document fitted with an apostille or legalisation.
