Certified prenuptial agreement translation

What is a prenuptial agreement deed?

Marriage conditions set out how you and your partner arrange your assets and debts during the marriage. The deed is drawn up and signed by a notary in the Netherlands. For use abroad or with a partner who speaks another language, the content must be carried over accurately and in a legal sound way into the language you need. Our legal translators know notarial terminology and make sure the translation reflects the source text accurately.

Why a sworn translation is needed

A sworn translation is produced by a translator registered in the Dutch Register of Sworn Interpreters and Translators (Rbtv). The translator adds a statement, a stamp and a signature. This makes the translation legally valid and accepted by authorities and institutions. For international use you can have the translation fitted with an apostille through the court, or a legalisationas required. Depending on the notarial instruction, a sworn interpreter present at the notarymay be required. You can request a quote from us for that as well.

A Dutch notary can prenuptial agreements draw up directly in English. If you already have a Dutch deed and want to use it in English, then you have the existing deed translated under oath. We arrange that sworn translation for you.

Where can I have my deed translated?

You can have your deed of prenuptial agreements translated online at Ecrivus International. The translation is produced by a sworn translator registered in the Dutch Register of Sworn Interpreters and Translators, including proofreading and quality checks.

Do I need an apostille on the translation?

For use abroad an apostille is needed. An apostille is issued by the court under the Apostille Convention (Hague Convention, 1961). On request, you can have us fit your document with an apostille or a legalisation.

How can I register a foreign marriage in the Netherlands?

You register a foreign marriage with the municipality where you live. The municipality updates your details in the Personal Records Database (BRP). Foreign documents often need a sworn translation for this, which we arrange for you.
