What is a certified translation of a passport?
A passport is an official identity document issued in the Netherlands by the municipality. For use at a foreign authority an ordinary translation is often not enough. A sworn translation is produced by a translator registered in the Dutch Register of Sworn Interpreters and Translators (Rbtv). The translator provides the translation with a stamp, signature and statement, which makes the translation legally valid and a literal match with your original passport.
Why a sworn translation is needed
Official authorities want to be sure that the translation of your passport is reliable and complete. That is why they ask for a sworn translationin such cases. We translate the passport into English, among others, and also into countless other languages. If the receiving country also needs an apostille or legalisation we can have your document fitted with an apostille (issued by the court under the Apostille Convention, The Hague Convention of 1961) or a legalisation.

What is a certified translation of a passport?
A sworn translation of a passport is produced by a sworn translator. This translator translates your passport literally and provides the translation with a statement, stamp and signature, so that it is a legally valid document.
How do you know whether a translator is sworn?
In the Netherlands the translator must be sworn in by a Dutch court and registered in the Dutch Register of Sworn Interpreters and Translators (Rbtv). You can look up a sworn translator via bureauwbtv.nl. All translators affiliated with Ecrivus are sworn.
How can I have my passport translated?

What does a certified passport translation cost?
At Ecrivus you have your passport translated under oath from €59 per passportin your order. The exact price depends on the chosen language combination and any additional services such as an apostille or legalisation.
Is a certified translation of my passport valid abroad?
A sworn translation is legally valid in the Netherlands. For use abroad the receiving authority sometimes asks for an additional apostille or legalisation. The apostille is issued by the court under the Apostille Convention. We can arrange this for you.
