Apostilles & Legalisaties

Apply for an apostille: legally valid for use abroad

An apostille is an official stamp that confirms that the signature and the stamp on a Dutch document are genuine. This makes your document legally valid in all countries that are party to the Apostille Convention, also known as the Hague Convention of 1961. Ecrivus Multimedia handles the entire apostille procedure for you: you provide your document and we have the apostille placed by the Dutch court and deliver the result ready for use at your home, office or Schiphol.

Apostille or legalisation?

For countries party to the Apostille Convention, an apostille is sufficient. If your document is going to a country that is not a party, a more extensive legalisation is needed, with extra steps via embassies or consulates. Not sure which form you need? We will find out for you.

Frequently asked questions about the apostille

What is an apostille?

An apostille is a stamp on a public document with which a competent authority confirms that the signature and the stamp on the document are genuine. This makes the document legally valid in countries party to the Apostille Convention.

For which countries do I need an apostille?

An apostille applies to all countries that have signed the Apostille Convention, about 125 countries. For other countries a legalisation is needed. We check for you which form your destination requires.

What is the difference between an apostille and legalization?

An apostille is the shortened form of legalisation and applies between convention countries. A legalisation is more extensive and consists of several certifications, needed for countries outside the Apostille Convention.
