Certified customs form translation

A customs form translation is something you arrange when you import or export goods and customs or a foreign authority asks for an official translation. At Ecrivus International you order the sworn translation of your customs form online, with a stamp, signature and statement from the translator. This makes the translation legally valid and you can submit the document without problems. The price starts from €59.

What is a customs form?

A customs form or customs declaration is the document with which you declare goods to Customs, part of the Tax Administration. The form shows, among other things, the description of the goods, the value, the country of origin and the destination. For cross-border transport, the receiving authority sometimes asks for a translation into the official language of the destination country, for example English. For formal use, an ordinary translation is usually not enough and a sworn translation is needed.

Why a sworn translation is needed

A sworn translation is produced by a translator registered in the Dutch Register of Sworn Interpreters and Translators (Rbtv) and sworn in by a Dutch court. The translator attaches the translation to a copy of your customs form and adds a statement, stamp and signature. With this, the translator declares that the translation is a faithful representation of the original. An ordinary or machine translation lacks this statement and is not accepted by official authorities.

How it works at Ecrivus

At the top of this page you select the number of pages and the desired language combination and place the order in the basket. Then you upload a scan or photo of your customs form. A specialised sworn translator then handles the translation, including proofreading and quality control. You receive the signed and stamped document at home by registered post.

Frequently asked questions about translating a customs form

How do I know whether a translator is sworn?

A sworn translator has been sworn in by a Dutch court and is registered in the Dutch Register of Sworn Interpreters and Translators (Rbtv). You can look up a translator via Bureau Wbtv. At Ecrivus we work only with translators listed in this register, so that your translation is legally valid.

What is the difference between a certified translation and an apostille?

A sworn translation is the official, word-for-word translation of your customs form with a statement, stamp and signature from the translator. An apostille is a separate authentication that the court issues under the Apostille Convention (The Hague Convention of 1961). An apostille confirms the translator's signature for use abroad. We can provide your translation with an apostille if you wish.

Can ChatGPT translate my customs form?

For informal use a machine translation may be enough, but not for official purposes. A legally valid translation requires a signed statement from a sworn translatorwhich artificial intelligence cannot provide. Therefore, for customs or a foreign authority, a sworn translation is needed.
