Certified municipal document translation
A document from the municipality can be translated under oath with a stamp at Ecrivus International. These are documents issued by the municipality such as an extract from the Personal Records Database (BRP extract), a certificate of residence or a proof of registration. For use with a foreign authority or in a procedure, a sworn translation is needed, so that the document is also legally valid in another language. You order the translation online and choose the language combination yourself. The price is €59 per page.
What is a certified translation of a municipal document?
A sworn translation is produced by a translator sworn in by a Dutch court and registered in the Dutch Register of Sworn Interpreters and Translators (Rbtv). The translator attaches the translation to a copy of your document and adds a stamp, signature and a statement of accuracy. This makes the translation an official document that authorities accept. Our translations are produced by a sworn, experienced and specialised legal translator.
Which municipal documents do we translate
We translate a wide range of documents issued by the municipality including a BRP extract, an extract from the Personal Records Database, a certificate of residence, a proof of registration and a proof of Dutch nationality. If you supply a photo or scan, the sworn translator translates the text accurately into the language you need. We support many file formats, including PDF.
Apostille or legalisation for use abroad
If you use the document abroad, the authority sometimes asks for an apostille. An apostille is a stamp from the court confirming the authenticity of the signature on the document. The apostille is governed by the Apostille Convention, also known as The Hague Convention of 1961, and applies between the member countries. We can have your document fitted with an apostille or a legalisationso that it can be used abroad.

What is a sworn translation of a document?
A sworn translation is a translation produced by a translator sworn in by a Dutch court and registered in the Dutch Register of Sworn Interpreters and Translators (Rbtv). The translator adds a stamp, signature and a statement of accuracy. This makes the translation legally valid and accepted by authorities.
How can I translate an official document?
An official document such as a BRP extract or a certificate of residence can be translated under oath. On this page you select the number of pages and the language combination, add it to the basket and upload a photo or scan of your document. A sworn translator then produces the legally valid stamped translation.
What does translating a municipal document cost?
At Ecrivus International a sworn translation costs €59 per page, including a stamp, proofreading and quality checks. The price depends on the number of pages and the chosen language combination, which you select at the top of this page.
Do I need an apostille for my translated municipal document?
That depends on the country and authority where you use the document. For countries party to the Apostille Convention (The Hague Convention of 1961), an apostille from the court is often sufficient. We can have your document fitted with an apostille or legalisation.
Can ChatGPT translate an official document?
No. A legally valid translation requires a signed statement of accuracy from a sworn translator in the Netherlands. An AI tool cannot legally provide this, so the result does not count as a sworn translation and is rejected. That is why Ecrivus works only with sworn translators.
