What is a recommendation letter?

A recommendation letter, also called a reference letter or in English a letter of recommendation, is a statement in which an employer, teacher or organisation speaks positively about your qualities and experience. You often use the document for a job application, an application for a study programme abroad or an immigration application. The letter is drawn up and signed by the person or institution recommending you, such as your current or former employer or an educational institution.

Why a sworn translation?

For official use abroad, a regular translation is usually not enough. A foreign employer, university or authority often asks for a sworn translation. It is produced by a translator listed in the Dutch Register of Sworn Interpreters and Translators (Rbtv). The translator adds a stamp, a signature and a statement confirming that the translation matches the original document. This makes the translation legally valid and accepted by official authorities.
