What is a sworn translation of a consent form?
A sworn translation is a translation produced by a translator registered in the Dutch Register of Sworn Interpreters and Translators (Rbtv). This translator is sworn in by a Dutch court and can be found through Bureau Wbtv. The translator provides the translation with a stamp, a signature and a statement that the translation matches the source document. This makes your translated consent form legally valid and accepted by official authorities.
Why have a consent form translated under oath?
A consent form for a minor is usually a declaration that the parent or guardian draws up and signs themselves. For use abroad an ordinary translation is often not enough. A sworn translation shows that the content has been transferred correctly and gives the foreign authority certainty about its authenticity. If the document also needs to be recognised in a country outside the Netherlands, an apostille needed. A apostille is issued by the court under the Apostille Convention (the Hague Convention of 1961).

What is the difference between a certified translation and an apostille?
A sworn translation is an accurate, professionally translated version of your document that retains legal validity in the destination country. An apostille is a standardised statement that confirms the authenticity of a document for use in countries that are party to the Apostille Convention (the Hague Convention). So they are two different steps that you sometimes both need.
How can I have a sworn translation legalised?
A sworn translation can be legalised by the court. The court checks the signature under the sworn statement and confirms that it belongs to the sworn translator and that the document is a valid sworn translation of this kind. If you wish, we can fit your document with an apostille or legalisation.
Who may produce a certified translation?
In the Netherlands the translator must be sworn in by a Dutch court and registered in the Dutch Register of Sworn Interpreters and Translators (Rbtv). You can look up a sworn translator through Bureau Wbtv. We work exclusively with translators who meet this requirement.
