What is a sworn translation of your terms and conditions?

General terms(in English: terms and conditions or general terms and conditions) form the document that governs the contractual relationship between you and your client. The document is not a government document but is drawn up by your own company. A sworn translation is a translation by a translator registered in the Dutch Register of Sworn Interpreters and Translators (Rbtv). The translator provides the translation with a stamp, a signature and a statement that the translation is a faithful rendering of the source text. This makes the translation legally valid and usable for official and business purposes.

Why have your terms and conditions translated under oath?

For general terms there is no statutory language requirement in the Netherlands, but you are obliged to offer your terms in a language the other party can understand. If you supply to clients abroad, a correct translation prevents discussion about the content and the validity of your termsof all kinds. Legal texts require precision. An automatic or AI-generated translation cannot provide a signed statement of accuracy and therefore does not count as sworn translation. An sworn translator does convert the legal terms correctly into the target language.

General terms are called terms and conditions or general terms and conditions in English. It is the document that governs the contractual relationship between the provider of a service and its user. Online it is also called terms of use or terms of service.

Can ChatGPT translate a legal document?

No, ChatGPT cannot provide a sworn or certified translation. A legally valid translation requires a signed statement of accuracy from a qualified human translator. An AI cannot legally issue that statement, so the translation does not count as sworn.

In which language must my terms and conditions be drawn up?
