What is a deed of usufruct?
A deed of usufruct is a notarial deed drawn up by a civil-law notary. The right of usufruct gives someone the right to use another person's property and receive the proceeds (the fruits) from it, while someone else remains the owner. This right often arises in inheritances, for example when a surviving partner receives the usufruct over the home or the assets. Why a sworn translation is needed
For official documents such as a notarial deed authorities almost always ask for a sworn translation. An sworn translation is produced by a translator who is entered in the Register of Sworn Interpreters and Translators (Rbtv) and has been sworn in by a Dutch court. The translator adds a stamp, signature and a statement that the translation is a faithful representation of the original. This makes the translation legally valid and accepted by authorities. For a notarial deed we usually work with a certified notarial copy, which we attach to the sworn translation for you.

A sworn translation itself has no fixed expiry date. The translator's oath before the court is renewed every five years. Some foreign authorities do ask for a recent translation, so check in advance what the receiving party requires.
Is an apostille required for my deed of usufruct?
Whether an apostille is required depends on the country where you use the deed afterwards. An apostille is issued by the court under the Apostille Convention (Hague Convention, 1961) and confirms the authenticity of the signature on the document.
