A unmarried declaration is a document from the municipality stating that you are not married at that moment and have no registered partnership. You request this certificate from the municipality where you are registered. Many countries ask for this document when you want to marry abroad or register a partnership.

Why a sworn translation is needed

Foreign authorities accept an unmarried declaration only in their own language and only if the translation is official. A sworn translator comes with a stamp, a signature and a statement that the document has been translated truthfully. This makes the translation legal valid. An ordinary or machine translation is not accepted by authorities, because it lacks the signed statement of a qualified translator.

Apostille and legalisation

For use abroad the receiving authority sometimes also asks for an apostille. An apostille is a stamp from the court that confirms the translator's signature.
