What is a Personal Records Database (BRP) extract?

A extract BRP is an official document from the Personal Records Database issued by the municipality. You request it from the municipality where you are registered, online with DigiD or at the counter. The extract confirms, among other things, your name, date of birth and address. For use abroad an international extract and a sworn translation is needed.

Why a sworn translation?

A sworn translation is a translation produced by a translator registered in the Dutch Register of Sworn Interpreters and Translators (Rbtv) and sworn in by a Dutch court. The translator provides the translation with a stamp, signature and statement, which makes the translation legally valid and accepted by official authorities. An ordinary or automatic translation does not meet this requirement.

How do I obtain an international BRP extract?

You request an international extract BRP from your municipality. You can do this online with DigiD or at the counter. At the counter you receive the extract straight away, while with an online request you receive it by post. You can then have it translated under oath by us into the language you need.

How do you know whether a translator is sworn?

A sworn translator is sworn in by a Dutch court and registered in the Dutch Register of Sworn Interpreters and Translators (Rbtv). You can check this via bureauwbtv.nl. Ecrivus International works exclusively with sworn and qualified translators.

How can I have a sworn translation legalised?

For use abroad, in addition to the sworn translation sometimes an apostille or legalisation is needed. An apostille is issued by the court under the Apostille Convention. If you wish, we can have your document fitted with an apostille or legalisation.

Can ChatGPT translate a legal document?
