The translator provides the translation with a stamp, a signature and a statement that the translation is identical in content to the original. This makes the translated confidentiality agreement legally valid and accepted by authorities, lawyers and business parties at home and abroad.
Why a sworn translation is needed
A confidentiality agreement contains legal provisions that must be reproduced exactly in the target language. An ordinary translation has no official status. For use with a notary, lawyer, court or foreign organisation, a sworn translation is required. The stamp and statement of the sworn translator guarantee that the translation is a faithful rendering of your document. This prevents your agreement from being rejected for formal reasons.

How do I know whether a translator is sworn?
A sworn translator has been sworn in by a Dutch court and is entered in the Register of Sworn Interpreters and Translators (Rbtv). You can look up a sworn translator through Bureau Wbtv. The translators Ecrivus International works with are registered in this register.
What is a sworn translation of a document?
A sworn translation is an officially translated document in which the sworn translator adds a statement that the translation is a faithful rendering of the original. The translation carries a stamp and a signature and is therefore legally valid.
Can ChatGPT translate a legal document?
No. For a legally valid translation of a confidentiality agreement a signed statement of accuracy from a qualified, sworn translator is required. An AI tool cannot legally provide that statement, so the result has no official status.
How can I have a sworn translation legalised?
A sworn translation can be legalised by the court. The court checks the signature under the certification statement and confirms that it is the signature of the sworn translator in question. For use in countries that are party to the Apostille Convention (the Hague Convention of 1961), the court places an apostillefor you. Ecrivus International can arrange this.
What are the rules for a sworn translation?
In the Netherlands a sworn translation must be made by a translator sworn in by a Dutch court and registered in the Rbtv. The translation is attached to the original or a copy of it and provided with a stamp, signature and statement. This establishes the validity and acceptance of the document.
