Certified sales agreement translation

What is a sworn translation of a sales agreement?
A sworn translation is produced by a translator registered in the Dutch Register of Sworn Interpreters and Translators (Rbtv). The translator provides the translation with a stamp, a signature and a statement that the text is a faithful rendering of the original document. Because of that statement, the translation is legally valid and accepted by courts, notaries and foreign authorities. An ordinary or machine translation lacks this value.
The seller's side of the agreement
In a sales agreement you, as the seller, set out the arrangements about what you are selling, at what price and under which conditions you deliver. If you sell to a party abroad or the agreement has to be submitted to a foreign authority, an accurate sworn translation matters. Legal terms and your obligations as the seller must come across exactly, because a translation error can lead to misunderstandings or liability.
Apostille and legalisation
For use abroad an authority sometimes asks for an apostille. An apostille is a statement issued by the court with which the signature of the sworn translator is recognised internationally. What are the rules for a sworn translation?
The sworn translator declares that the translation is a faithful and accurate representation of the original document or a copy of it. On the sworn translation you also find the translator's stamp and signature. The translator must be registered in the Dutch Register of Sworn Interpreters and Translators (Rbtv).
How do you know whether a translator is sworn?
A translator is sworn when he or she is registered in the Rbtv. The sworn translation contains a note that it is a faithful translation, together with the translator's stamp, name and signature. We work only with translators registered in this register.
